A Case Study to Show Remote Meter Reading Technology

A vast number of commercial buildings throughout the UK are split between landlord and tenanted areas. Within these buildings they need a way to remotely read gas, electric, and water meters, so they can manage their own energy consumption. Our developers recently completed the installation of our remote meter reading systems at 6 different locations, including Edinburgh, Liverpool, Bristol, Southampton, and 2 London locations for a large facilities company.

Despite the older age and different types of meters, we were able to install our IoT remote meter reading hardware onto both digital and analogue gas, electric and water meters at all of these sites, using our Lorawan IoT hardware. All of the system fitted was installed without disruption to any of the tenants.

One of the key objectives for the facilities company was to understand energy consumption, they agreed thresholds so that alerts could be created when consumption goes above certain levels.

Special web accessible dashboards have been created to show the live data and historical energy consumption

We were able to install our hardware to all of the requested areas of the building, enabling the consumption to be recorded independently for the individual tenants giving them their own electricity consumption.

Installation of Heat and Cool Meters

In many of the sites, the managing agents require billing of each tenants’ heating and cooling usage. This was undertaken by the installation of Heat and Cool meters, which accurately measure individual tenants’ consumption.

Unlike other systems, ours is unique in that it can communicate and penetrate through concrete/steel floors and plant room walls, and provide remote monitoring and critical alarming data using a secure mobile network. It enables monitoring of key items, especially when the site has less occupants
